Horizons Foundation Newsletter - May 2004

Dear Friends of Horizons Foundation:
Welcome to the May 2004 monthly newsletter from Horizons Foundation.

WWW.HORIZONSFOUNDATION.COM became a reality. We again thank Mr. Jerry Woods for
his push and all his efforts to make this a reality. Check the site to get up to
date information about current and planned events.

May was also a month spent in planning and preparation. Both Calvin Klaus
(Moldova) and Avis Goodhart (Peru) were in the US planning and organizing this
summers activities. Calvin has been getting a thorough medical checkup and
ordering software to take back to Moldova for the new computers there.

In Chisinau, Moldova the 7th house is now occupied at Bethany Christian Center.
This was accomplished by moving the family of the school principal (Romica and
Viorica Hututui) over into the newly completed house. This was done in order to
free up the house closest to the barn. The new couple will have the
responsibility of taking care of all the farm animals and preparing the meat and
eggs for the entire center. This couple has just completed the
selection/education process and now have a few children moved in with them in
their new home. Over 60 children have now been rescued from the streets and
there is still a waiting list of kids wanting and needing a home.

The 8th house is now totally rehabbed and needs furniture. After this there are
only 2 houses left to rehab and furnish. Praise God.

The bakery at Bethany Christian Center is now profitable month after month. This
is excellent progress for a business that was just formed last August 2003. Not
only does it supply employment for at least 8 families, it's turning a profit!
They bake a delicious home-baked bread as well as a good variety of pastries.
Like Doru Cerdei, Executive Director says, "It's easier to make bread, than it
is to sell bread." Moldovans are quick learners when it comes to capitalism.
Since most businesses lose money their first year, it's heart-warming to see
profitable months start stacking up, month after month. Our first goal for the
bakery is to make a profit on a year to date basis for its first full year of
operation. Please pray with us that this goal will be met and exceeded!

The business manager for the shoe making business in Moldova has been selected
and has received training in Romania. This business will take a few months to
come to profitability.

Over in Odessa, Ukraine the new children's home continues to flourish. This home
will be featured in the June newsletter.

On the other side of the world, down in Pacasmayo, Peru, work continues on
building the first two stories of the new children's home there. Latest reports
and pictures show the first two floors to be about 85% complete. During May,
Avis Goodhart came to St Charles, Missouri to attend a seminar with Al
(Charlotte watched the kids) called 'How to Build a Contagious Church'. This was
developed with the Willow Creek Association of Chicago and the Saddleback Church
of California. Check out http://www.willowcreek.com/conferences/evangelism. If
you want to be challenged: attend one of these upcoming seminars in Lansing,
Michigan (June 25-26) or Chicago Illinois (Oct 15-16).

One of Avis' primary tasks while in the US was to coordinate the packing and
shipment of 54 computers into a container and onto Peru. Now, the container and
Avis are in Lima, Peru and Avis is trying to insure all customs requirements
have been met in order to get the container onto Pacasmayo.

In His Service,

Al Lockhart
