Horizons Foundation Newsletter - September 2004

+ Peru - new building for families finished, needs furniture quickly
+ Moldova – bus coming when paperwork completed
+ Ukraine – new documents completed to keep government happy

PERU - Two floors of the new children’s home are completed and the new apartments are ready to move into. That means all the painting is complete, doors hung and bathrooms and kitchens installed. That also means that some furniture has been scraped and scavenged together to make the building look habitable. Now comes the official governmental inspection to receive approval for the new children’s home. It must remain unoccupied until it is officially licensed as an orphanage with the Peruvian government. By obtaining this license, some of the local hospitals will be allowed to send abandoned infants to this new home. Then comes the next big job of purchasing and installing all the furniture required to make the children’s home functional. $8800 completes this project. Special note and prayer request - Avis Goodhart, the Executive Director of Go Ye Ministries has an arduous speaking schedule in October and really needs some R&R after putting her all into getting the building built.

She and her team have started the Internet café on the first floor of the new children’s home. While Avis is in the USA, her team in Peru is identifying requirements to open the English and computer school; with the goal of knowing the governmental requirements by the end of October. Other "4-Profit-4-Charity" projects are planned. Some members of the Horizons Foundation advisory board are planning a trip to Peru to see the progress and build a strategic plan by January 2005, come join us!

MOLDOVA – The school bus that Horizons Foundation donated to My Brothers Keeper in Romania will find a new home in Moldova, soon. Since the 72-passenger bus is used primarily during the summer in Romania, the folks at MBK have offered to send this bus into Moldova for use in transporting all the school age kids living at Bethany Christian Center to the New Elim School in Chisinau. Of course, MBK will need to have a replacement bus by the end of next April and by faith, we are agreeing to help make that happen along with the financial help from the profits of the bakery at Bethany.

UKRAINE – We believe that early in September, all the newly required documents by the local governmental officials were produced and paid for. Amazing how the new rules always come with a required tax or fee due the official making the request. And they have the power to enforce the delivery of the documents or potentially require the child to leave Hope House, if the documents are not produced. Sergei, the Executive Director welcomed a project team from Canada earlier in the month. This team installed the new half bath in Hope House and worked to seal the home from the moisture and mold problem so prevalent in that style of construction. Hope House has been substantially improved and a couple skilled in Eastern Europe construction methods are continuing to stay and make improvements even after the rest of the team returned to Canada.

Much work has been accomplished on physically improving the building and much work will be required to make Hope House self-sustaining. Hopefully, we will be able to send them the last $600 of the funds to repay the lender who provided the bridge loan to purchase the adjacent piece of property made available earlier this summer

HELP - Al just received a phone call from a gentlemen offering to donate over 90 rooms of hotel furniture here in St Charles Missouri, as long as it is removed within the next 7 days. If you know of available warehouse space or have some ideas on how we can gather this furniture for God’s work, please give Al a call at 1-800-701-9313 or 636.727.1264. Quickly, please, the clock is ticking down!
