Zambia - Hey buddy, wanna' save a life for $10?
Our partners in Zambia - World Hope International - USA have a distribution system in place to save up to 50,000 lives in Africa thru one simple means: Malaria nets. $10 buys one treated mosquito net. It's draped over a bed and keeps the malaria infected mosquitoes away from the sleeper. World Hope staff then trains the people how to use them. Ukraine - Foster Home - Hope House gets big new addition for $18 per sq ft!
By November 2006, Hope House received a new addition due to a grant from the Canadian government. Horizons Foundation helped purchase this building on the left (see http://www.worldhopeukraine.com/letter.htm) and now it has the big addition, below:
-- From This -- -- To This --
Kerry Allison, the Canadian coordinator in Ukraine, really gets into his work, dust and all. The finished product has left the house parents and the foster children in awe. For a complete slide show of the building progress, see http://www.worldhopeukraine.com/CIDAhopehouse.htm. All labor was donated.
For a complete list of all Horizons Foundation's priorities and projects, see more about Ukraine - see page 5.

Moldova - Sad News:
We extend our deepest symphony to one of the orphanage families living at Bethany Christian Center. Just before Christmas, one little toddler was eating pancakes for breakfast, choked, and could not be revived. This tragic loss has deeply affected all concerned with. Our prayers are with the family and the leadership team during this trying time.
Up in BUp in Belti, Moldova, Calvin Klaus and the Children-At-Risk program continues with success. Last September all of the children went back to school. The school system in Moldova asks the children and their families to pay for their school books. Many of the children from the program did not have the funds to buy the required books.

In the beginning of September we started to buy books for them. We are so glad now that every one is in the school and have the books they need. Thank you for your prayers More about Calvin and Moldova - see page 6

Peru - Good News:
The good news is that now 22 children are living at the orphanage.
The microlending program has been suspended for the time being. The Peruvian Board of Directors is taking whatever action is necessary to protect the assets of Association Horizons. Our partnership with Go Ye Ministries is as strong as ever and recently Horizons Foundation formed a partnership with Hope for the Nations in Canada, so that any Canadian wishing to make a tax deductible donation to Go Ye Ministries may do so via Hope for the Nations. Horizons Foundation will then forward all funds received from Hope for the Nations onto Go Ye Ministries.
Generating Extreme Happiness right here in St Louis: Page 3
Tuesday morning just 6 days before Christmas, the Horizons Foundation phone rang with someone wanting to donate a kitchen table and chairs.
I am accustomed to receiving calls like this and have made arrangements with two organizations that have the staff and trucks to accept these donations. I took the lady's phone number and dialed one of these organizations. The group I called is a charity for drug and alcohol treatment where about 25 men live in a big 6-family building in North St. Louis. It's located in a high crime area; a tough neighborhood, near downtown where you don't want to drive a nice car and you certainly wouldn't consider driving thru the neighborhood at night. This charity came to my attention thru members of their board during the last couple of years and I knew the charity to be reputable. The man who runs the program is named Pastor Jerome.
I told Pastor Jerome about the proposed donation and we chatted for a couple of minutes. He told me of his desire to bless about 300 kids in the neighborhood with Christmas presents. My phone call was interrupted by my wife calling my name, from 70 feet away, and telling me that another phone call was coming in. I told Pastor Jerome that I needed to hang up and that I would call him right back after taking this other phone call.
I then picked up the other phone and recognized my son-in-law's voice. He said, "Last Saturday afternoon, I was lying on the couch, and I really feel that I'm supposed to go buy a bunch of Christmas presents for some kids." I asked him how many he felt that God was directing him to buy. He said, "300."
He then asked if Horizons Foundation could help him quickly respond to this need because Christmas was only six days away. I told him, "Sure we can, what can we do?" He told me of his plan to ask his suppliers to chop a little bit off of the bill his company owed them and then he would take that money and go buy some presents.
You can imagine his amazement when I told him about just hanging up the phone on Pastor Jerome who was asking for 300 presents and my astonishment when he said he felt that God told him to go buy 300 presents. He just laughed out loud!
He and his employees canvassed his suppliers, and raised enough money to buy all the presents within just a couple of hours. I gave him the tax exempt numbers and then he asked Wal-Mart if they would give a discount for the toys. They did give a 10% discount. Thank you Wal-Mart!!!
The very next day, I got another call from Jon, my son-in-law. He said that his brother-in-law was in the Marines and that the Marines were conducting their annual Toys-for-Tots campaign. The Marines needed some pallet sized boxes. Jon just happens to keep a skid of those in his warehouse and he offered to give some to the Marines. They got to chatting and the result was that the Marines gave at least another 600 toys.
All 900+ toys were delivered to our partners in North St. Louis. On Christmas day our family was fortunate to be able to hand out the toys to the kids and their parents. Written as it happened by Al Lockhart

Zambia - continued from page 1:
Our top priority new project for 2007 is to sponsor another Zambian orphan trust. Horizons Foundation plans to fund another $6000 to sponsor another Orphan Trust in cooperation with World Hope International - USA to purchase animals and seed for one village so the surviving adults can care for the orphaned children due to their parent's death to AIDS. We will add $600 to this donation for 60 mosquito nets to save this village from malaria. Also, when God provides the funds, we will send a water well drilling machine to Zambia - $8800. It'll go thru solid rock up to 100 meters and provide clean drinking water for the entire village, at least 60 people!
A Zambian orphan trust contains 4 elements: a) a deep water well for a village, b) an animal multiplication program for a sustainable future, c) enough seed to plant a multi-acre vegetable farm and d) a tall fence around the entire vegetable farm to keep out foraging animals. Now, Zambia has 28 orphan trusts sponsored by World Hope International. The goal is to establish another 22 during 2007 to bring the total to 50. Lives are being saved from this AIDS pandemic in Zambia!

Ukraine - Good news continued from page 1:
Horizons Foundation' Priorities For 2007 Ongoing Commitments - Continue to provide support and assistance in saving over 200 lives at a) the orphanage at Bethany Christian Center in Chisinau Moldova, b) the Children-at-Risk program in Belti Moldova, c) the orphanage in Pacasmayo Peru, and d) the two homes for children in the Ukraine: Hope House and Sheppard's Home.
Zambia - Save 60 lives by funding another $6000 to sponsor another Orphan Trust in cooperation with World Hope International - USA to purchase animals and seed for one village so the surviving adults can care for the orphaned children due to their parent's death to AIDS. You can literally expect a one-time donation of $100 to save a person's life! We will add $600 to this for 60 mosquito nets to save this village from malaria. Also, when God provides the funds, we will send a water well drilling machine to Zambia - $8800. It'll go thru solid rock up to 100 meters and provide clean drinking water for the entire village of at least 60 people!
Ukraine, Odessa - Setup an official Horizons Foundation - Ukraine organization, approved by the Ukrainian government. This is needed to hold title to property in Ukraine. Approximate cost of this project is $4000.
Ukraine, Odessa - Manage the 8 properties controlled by Horizons Foundation in the Ukraine to maximize their value in order to purchase property for multiple homes for 16 year old girls who are forcibly discharged from the state run orphanages. In January 2006, Horizons Foundation purchased 6 properties with a total investment of $35,300. Nine months later one of the properties was sold for a 60% gain and the profits were reinvested in 3 more properties. The reason for this effort is to build value in order to fund part of the cost of building a new permanent home for the girls currently living in Sheppard's Home AND to work toward raising the $500,000 necessary to buy a building in downtown Odessa for a new First Steps Center. First Steps Center is sponsored by our partners, World Hope International - Canada.
Ukraine, Odessa - Acquire a large van to transport the girls from Sheppard's Home to Hope House, so the girls can work with the tutors available there. Approximate cost of this project is $18,000 for the van plus $2000 for the proper licenses.

Ukraine, Odessa - Build the first of 4 homes for girls who are forcibly discharged from the state run orphanages at the age of 15 or 16. Construction is scheduled to start in October 2007 and grant requests will be written to fund this effort. Approximate cost of the first building is $78,000. This project pays for itself in 12 years, due to avoided lease payments.
Ukraine, Odessa - Acquire property adjacent to Hope House for building Hope House II in the future - $60,000. And, acquire additional farmland - $9000.
Moldova - Calvin Klaus' Newsletter - January 2007 from page 2: NEWSLETTER January 2007Summer time has passed but the Lord's harvest is still waiting workers in the field. May 2007 be a year of preparing labors for the harvest. 2007 To Do List No resolutions for this year
Starting the New Year is always a fun thing. Most years I have tried to make a resolution for the year. This year I am making a To Do List. Seems like 2006 ended with a Seven Year To Do being marked off my list or at least I am drastically changing the focus that I will have on the Seven Year To Do. OK, you say, Calvin that is enough speaking in code. My seven year To Do was to spend every effort, every thought, every ounce of time and money that I could in helping two young men plant a church in the second largest city of Moldova. For seven years I have done everything I could do to work toward finishing this To Do. Working with Anatol and Sergiu has been very enjoyable and rewarding. They have matured and are very capable as the pastoral leadership in the church. So now I want to become more of an advisor and less of a leader.
2007 To Do List
Take time to seek the Lord's presence in my life. Help establish the second and third year programs in the Bible School in Balti. Concentrate on developing and print the courses on the Life of Christ, Hermeneutics, Christology, and the book of Daniel. Help facilitate the establishing both Teen Challenge and Realife Media in Moldova and help Horizons Foundation establish foundation and board in Ukraine. Realife is a substance abuse prevention program for youth in high schools and colleges. Become more active in discipleship by teaching in Bible Schools and personal mentoring. Focus on starting a discipleship Bible school program in Russia. Study the Russian language this year. The blue underlined areas are links to more information about each of these points in the To Do List. Just click them to go to the page. Yes this is quite the To Do list. What to do just set and do nothing? Some how, I cannot enjoy doing nothing. Oh, there is one other thing that I hope to do. This year I hope to be able to ride my bicycle enough to try to improve my health. I have a goal of trying to ride enough to be able to take a vacation on an easy five day bike tour in Czech Republic or Greece. Right this is not a real spiritual To Do but for the last ten years there have been no real vacations so to speak.
