I have chosen to support Horizons Foundation due to the philosophy the founders of Horizons employ in all of their projects - the philosophy of self-sufficiency and perpetual solutions to projects that rescue and support homeless children in many countries. After spending time with Al, I realize that he is able to find worthy projects focused on rescuing children, carefully put oversight and management in place, and implement working solutions in so many important places. I believe that this philosophy, executed successfully, is the most efficient solution to address the social causes of today.
I have chosen to support the microlending initiatives that Horizon is implementing. In some cases, Horizons is microlending to an entrepreneur in Zambia or a mother in Romania to help these people build small entrepreneurial solutions that directly help children and their families. In the past I have looked for worthy charitable projects and have sometimes felt that not enough of the actual donation found its way to the project itself. I am convinced that 100% of the donations to Horizons gets to the project, and also to the specific project if it is a designated donation.
If all charitable activities were as efficient as Horizons, I believe that the donations currently received would solve double or triple the number of issues as we do today worldwide. While the Horizons self-sustaining approach requires more skill and effort to implement, there is no question that the projects catalyzed by these donations evolve to a self-sustaining life of their own. I quit looking for other worthy projects that assist destitute children after discovering Horizons Foundation. Horizons has identified so many important, transforming projects to choose from.
I chose to adopt and sponsor the micro-lending project in general. I have come to believe that Al is able to identify very worthwhile projects that can put $300 or $500 to work in the hands of deserving, grateful person in many needy areas of the world. And as each micro-entrepreneur succeeds and repays their loan, the seed of hope is planted firmly in the heart of the hardworking person, their family, their friends and their community. I believe it makes a significant difference both at the micro level as well as the macro level.
I have donated to help kick off the new Horizon microlending program and to allow Al to put this money into the right hands. I dedicate this first donation to the memory of my friend, John Brennan, who was tragically killed in an auto accident in August, 2005. This is particularly fitting since John was a financial advisor and had a passion for supporting the underpriveledged also. Today there are too many children who have no place to sleep tonight.....and there are many other projects that are available for adoption, just check out this website for more info.
I continue to support the Microlending Program of Horizons in the memory of my father, Herbert J. Woods, Jr. My father supported several charities during his life and had a special concern for impoverished and needy children. Donate to the Herbert Woods Memorial Fund and help save the lives of children all over the world. Horizons puts all the money donated into the projects.
For any other sponsors, I will help construct a sponsor page for you and your company. Make a difference today!
